Dan Parr – Audio Describer/ Founder/ Director

Hi I’m Dan one of the founder members of Hear The Picture. My audio description journey started performing character led audio description in ‘road’ at Leeds Playhouse and from there Hear The Picture was born.

I am inspired by the potential of audio description as an extra narrative layer, and my goal is to raise awareness of this potential within creative teams so audio description is thought about before a show starts rehearsing, as well as exploring audio description as an art form in its own right.

To date I have audio described for multiple shows, they are…

She Loves Me (Sheffield Crucible), Anna Karenina (Sheffield Crucible), Standing At The Sky’s Edge (Sheffield Crucible and NT), Wildfire Road (Sheffield Crucible), Miss Saigon (Sheffield Crucible), Too Much World At Once (Box Of Tricks/HOME/Northern Stage/Theatr Clwyd) and Gin Craze (Northampton Royal and Derngate)

As an actor I’ve been involved in multiple theatre productions including…

Much Ado About Nothing (Ramps On The Moon & Sheffield Theatres), Lava (Soho Theatre), The Big Corner (Bolton Octagon), Road (Royal Court), The Kitchen Sink (The New Vic) Around The World In 80 Days, Hamlet, A Christmas Carol, Europe, Road, Romeo and Juliet, Kes (Leeds Playhouse) Weald (Finborough theatre), Hamlet (Barbican), Britannia Waves The Rules, Scuttlers, Pages From my Songbook (Royal Exchange Theatre), Wanted! Robin Hood (Library Theatre), and DNA (The Lowry Theatre).

I’m a petite white woman with olive skin, big brown eyes and dark eyebrows – my hairstyle is a platinum bleached bob with a short fringe. I’ve a tiny nose stud in my right nostril and silver hoop earrings. In this image I am leaning forward – elbows on my knees, smiling. Wearing a grey vest and black trousers.

Jo Mousley – Audio Describer/ Founder/ Director

Hiya I’m Jo, one of the founder members of Hear the Picture. Having played Valerie in Leeds Playhouse’s fully integrated audio described production of ‘Road’ and that first experience of describing live in character from an onstage phone booth – memorably trying to describe one particular scene in which Dan and Darren’s two characters got chased through the audience by a very drunk woman swinging her handbag at them – my passion for making actor-led creative audio description access has grown and developed from there.

Recently I created the description for Complicite’s ‘Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead’. For Sheffield Crucible I’ve described on Talent, Typical Girls (a co production with Clean Break) and Anna Karenina. For The Royal and Derngate the premier of ‘Gin Craze’ a new musical. And ‘Can You Hear Me, Now?’ with SBC Theatre – A celebratory outdoor performance take over at Swanswell Park commissioned by Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 in partnership with The Belgrade and Coventry Refugee Migrant Centre.

Through the support of Sheffield Theatres and brilliant training of Guide Dogs Association I am a certified Sighted Guide.

As an actor I’ve many years’ experience working in fantastic theatres with some wonderful casts. Highlights have been touring the UK and New Zealand with Jonathan Harvey’s ‘Corrie’. The magical ‘Arabian Nights’ a Library Theatre production at The Lowry and winner of Manchester Theatre Awards best ensemble! Playing Hester in Hello and Goodbye in the studio theatre at York Theatre Royal and Tim Foley’s Bruntwood Judge’s prize winning ‘Electric Rosary’ at the glorious Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, playing Mother Elizabeth.

Beccie Allen – Audio Describer

Hello, I’m Beccie, a short smiley, white skinned, redheaded actor hailing from Wakefield in West Yorkshire.  I trained as an actor at LIPA and graduated in 2021.

Whilst training I played the old woman in Yerma, Laertes in Hamlet and was a company member in the riotous Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again by Alice Birch.

Since graduating I’ve worked with Stute theatre on their production of I Am No Bird, which  looked at the Bronte sisters artistic legacy and challenges faced for female creatives today. I worked with To The Ocean Productions on their brand new play Alex and Maggie Go Ghost Hunting at The Space theatre in London.

My first job with Hear The Picture was describing the phenomenal Standing At The Sky’s Edge both in Sheffield and London which has been a career highlight thus far.  I have also described The Crucible and The Comedy of Errors at The Globe during my time within the company.
